Jewel of Abundance: Book Review

Senior Publicist of New World Library, Kim Corbin, writes, “The Jewel of Abundance is a time-tested guide to wealth with a spiritual perspective. . .”

This caught my attention.

Abundance is a bit of a “hot word” right now; we hear it and read it everywhere, which makes it difficult to be interested in any new insights. That is, until Ellen Grace O’Brian’s new book, “The Jewel of Abundance: Finding Prosperity through the Ancient Wisdom of Yoga.”

She says, “If we were fully ready to receive our heart’s desire, we would already have it.” (p42).

What I love most about this book is that every insight, instruction, and suggestion is rooted in the scriptures of Yoga. The author calls on verses from the Yoga Sutra and the Bhagavad Gita to support her ideas, dissolving the illusion that wealth and abundance are in any way mutually exclusive with spirituality. This is a lesson that many of us will benefit from hearing, and then hearing again and again!

In a personal interview with the author, she was asked “You encourage your readers to turn their minds from worry to worship. Do you have any practice advice to offer on how to do that?”

First off, I love that! “Turn your mind from worry to worship.” The book is full of these simple, yet profound, catchy directions that can literally transform your thinking in a heartbeat. But her response to the question is dead-on, and one that I know first-hand works . . .

Ellen says, “Learn how to meditate superconsciously, how to consciously abide in your essence of being beyond words and thoughts. Do it every day.”

This is a lovely book for those looking to be inspired from a place that is rooted in the ancient wisdom and science that is yoga. The personal anecdotes and stories make it all the more accessible and a perfectly uplifting bedtime read.
