One of the joys of teaching yoga and mindful movement is the incredible community that comes with it. Beyond the poses and stretches, it’s the small everyday connections — sharing tips, recipes, and little acts of care — that make it so special.
Today, I'm excited to share this favourite recipe from one of our students: a hearty, comforting, and nourishing lentil soup. Perfect for cozy evenings, family dinners, or a wholesome lunch to keep you energized.
Fun Fact: This recipe appeared in The Ottawa Citizen on Jan 23, 1991, when they would solicit asked-for recipes from restaurants.
Ingredients
1 pound of red lentils (2 to 21/4 cups)
1quart water
1 tbsp salt
1/2 cup veg oil
2 medium onions, finely chopped
2 medium tomatoes, finely chopped
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tbsp ground coriander (or less)
Juice of a quarter lemon for each serving
Instructions
Combine lentils, water and salt. Bring to a boil, and cook 5 minutes until lentils are soft.
In a frying pan heat the oil and sauté onions and tomatoes. Add cayenne and coriander.
Simmer until the mixture becomes sauce-like in consistency.
Add the sauce to the pot of lentils and simmer for 5 minutes.
Serve soup squeezing 1/4 lemon over each serving.

Thank you, I am looking forward to trying it out.
