5 Ways to Banish Self-Doubt

November 16, 2018

One of the 9 obstacles to success as described in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras is self-doubt. The process of self-reflection is lifelong, and although discipline will keep you sharp, self-doubt can dull that edge.

The Oxford English Dictionary describes doubt as “questioning the truth of a thing” or “having uncertainty.” Discretion is a valuable trait to have. Inquisition leads to critical thinking and a quest for “proof” that can unearth remarkable insights. But when doubt supports procrastination and avoidance, its value is lost.

5 Ways to Banish Self-Doubt

1. Surround yourself with positive people.

2. Fill your mind with inspiring words.

3. Avoid cynics and “realists.” Yoga inhabits the realm of miracles, where you are the master of your own destiny. People who design their lives based on evidence and analysis alone miss the miracles surrounding them.

4. Use positive affirmations.

5. Eat healthily. Breathe deeply. Meditate. Practice asana.

Reflection: Take stock of your life and determine if you could benefit from any of these five tools. Journal your intention to implement this change and notice if the world changes around you as a result!
